Machines and Grinders for Carts
Watch: Coffee Cart Startup Guide
California permits, SB 972 and the equipment a cart actually needs
Start With Power and Water
On a cart or trailer, the espresso machine is usually the biggest draw on your power, and it's the first thing that limits your menu. Before you pick a machine, know three things:
-
Power. Your circuit or generator capacity, and everything else that runs on it: grinder, fridge, blender, lights.
-
Water. Whether you're plumbed in or running from tanks and a pump, and how you'll filter it.
-
Space and weight. Counter depth, clearance under the cabinets, and how much weight the build can carry.
Send us those numbers and we'll match a machine to them. We'd rather tell you a machine won't work before you buy it than after.
Machines That Fit a Cart
-
Slayer Espresso Single Group, from $13,600. Slayer's flow-controlled shots from one group, for a cart that wants to stand out.
-
Slayer Steam Single, from $10,800. A single-group Slayer Steam for milk-heavy menus.
-
La Marzocco Linea Mini and GS3, by quote. Compact dual-boiler machines with La Marzocco build quality.
-
Grinders. Mahlkönig E65S, E65T and E65W, and the Mazzer Super Jolly.
-
Puqpress. An automatic tamper that keeps shots consistent when the line is long.
Permits and the Health Department
Every county health department has its own rules for carts and trailers, from sinks and water capacity to which equipment is approved. Most require commercial, NSF-certified equipment. Check with your county's environmental health office before you build.
We can send spec sheets for any machine we sell to help with your plan check.
Questions We Get
Can I run an espresso machine on a generator?
Often, yes, if the generator is sized for the machine plus everything else on the cart. Tell us your generator model and we'll check it against the machine's specs before you order.
One group or two?
Most carts are fine with one group. If you're planning for long lines at events, two groups or a second grinder speeds things up, but it needs more power.
Do you set up equipment on carts?
We deliver and set up across Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara, and we'll walk your builder through the machine's power, water and drain requirements.
